Just when you thought that New Body Bootcamp couldn’t get any more crazy, we’ve now introduced Dodgeball! If you haven’t seen the hilarious film, it’s well worth watching before you come and tackle our faced paced game that is great for agility, speed, reaction training and of course shifting the pounds while having fun.

The game is quite simple – throw the ball as hard as you can to try and hit the payers on the other team. If you hit them, they’re out – if they catch the ball you throw, you’re out and another player can come back in from their team. We play Dodeball after the main sessions depending on the numbers in camp. Needless to say, it’s proven to be a winner since it was introduced last week.

I’ll be uploading a video as soon as possible so you can see if in action, but in the mean time here’s a clip from the film…

(Please note that unlike the movie clip shows, dodgeball is 100% safe using balls and speeds that DO NOT HURT! Ha ha! – also I do not use wrenches on bootcamps for practice)

I was recently on my facebook account and noticed someone talking about change, and it reminded me and thought I’d ask you the question, when did you change and what impact did it have on your life. We all go through change at some point in our lives and one event normally triggers a snowball that creates a lot of positives. I know it did for me.

… I always hated leaning at school. Now I love to learn new material to help me pass my skills onto others.

…I always hated sports, got picked last and had a chip on my shoulder. Now I love to get active and it keeps me energised for the other things in my life.

…I was always getting into trouble. Now I would always rather talk my way out of a problem rather than fight.

…I didn’t care about what I ate. Now I balance good nutrition with a bit of what’s bad for me and my body runs at a more optimum level.

…I used to be stressed at work. Now, I do what I want, when I want and have created a lifestyle that suits me, not one that is in control of me. What’s more everyone can do this, you don’t need any qualifications. Everything can be learned, becuase I’ve done it. Fitness, nutrition, lifestyle – you just need a good mentor.

Yeah, I’ve changed a lot.

When did you change or are there big changes to come that could shape the rest of your life for the positive…

Check out this interview on SKY TV interview where I talk about getting a mentor, trying new things and creating long lasting change…

Whether you’re just about to enter fitness taining, or you’re already keeping your body in shape, but are in search of a new strategy, there’s are some key things you need to know before getting involved to ensure your results are optimised. What you don’t want to happen is to lose motivation along the way and then generate a negative association to fitness. Fitness should be fun, varied, produce quick results and help develop you mentally. So, are you ready to learn the 7 secrets to ultimate fitness training?

Mental Preparation
Half of the battle when it comes to achieving your goal is being mentally prepared. I’ve worked with a lot of people who say they can’t do something before even trying it. This is quickly changed, and as soon as a new belief is installed, you’ll be very surprised at what can be achieved. Once you overcome your emotional hurdles, everything else becomes easier, so feel the fear, and do it anyway. When you get that feeling of ‘oh, I can’t do that’, why not give it a go and then decide.

The Short and The Long Term Goal
Often people enter their new fitness training programme with no clear idea of where they want to get to. This is vitally important. Without a clear goal in your mind, you’re in limbo. First of all it’s important to look at a long term goal which may be three or six months away. It could be to run a marathon or a half marathon, something which at the moment seems slightly out of reach, but you know you’ll get a massive sense of satisfaction from achieving. Then it’s time to set the baby step goals up until that point, so you’re continuously getting somewhere, but the goal is smaller. This could be to swim three lengths of a swimming pool without stopping. When you’re continuously achieving, you’re progressing!

Tracking Your Progress
Try and write down what you do, so you can see yourself progressing on paper. Every week at New Body Bootcamp we run a fitness test which allows the recruits to keep ontop of their fitness levels and get a constant reminder of where they are. What are you doing to keep track of your fitness training. It’s very important to do this at least once a week.

Optimising Your Nutrition
You may think you’re eating well, but when it comes to implementing a new fitness training programme, you may need to start eating differently, based on your goals and the time in which you’re training to ensure you get the correct levels of carbohydrate, protien and fat. Carbs produce energy and protien rebuilds muscle, so as these elements directly link to what you’re doing with your fitness (ie, needing energy during your session and protien to keep your muscle tone optimised afterwards), it’s good to keep a food diary and have it looked by a professional. New Body Bootcamp runs 1-1 nutrition monitoring for all of its recruits.

Knowing When to Rest
Rest is as important to your fitness training as it is your exercise time, so learning when to rest is key. Everyone’s different and based on your fitness levels you may be able to less rest the more fit you are. On the other hand, depending on the intensity and what you’re actually doing, it may be best to take more. Learning when your body is telling you to take a rest comes when you get moving and doing it. Are you doing it yet?

I was just listening to one of my idols, Anthony Robbins talk, not about fitness, diet or weight loss but another topic, but the information really can move over from one area of life to another. He was explaining why the most happy people are always making progress, even if they’re taking baby steps. Even though a goal can seem far away, ‘pushing the pebble down the slope’ will lead to your ultimate goal being reached. I makes complete sense. Momentum is really what moves us in the right direction and even though we have many distractions that stop us in our tracks or make us steer into a different direction, it’s vitally important that whatever your long term goal is, you push that first pebble. With health, while you think you’re standing still, actually you’re moving backwards, and as we get older, it becomes harder and harder to motivate once your body starts to slow down. So the message of this post is simply to ask the question, are you standing still with your weight, fitness or health goal or making progress. Progress could be making a food diary and eliminating unhealthy choices. It could be taking yourself for a morning run or taking up a fitness class. It could be something tiny. But a tiny step will equal to a big step. No steps equal to no steps, or a move backwards. Have a great day!

Children model what their parents do, fact. If we want for our children to grow up healthily we need to act a certain way and help to develop to become the best they can. What are you doing to help the children around you get the most out of life? We don’t want our children to grow up obese, so be sure to make a few changes to your lifestyle to ensure your kids get the most of of life. Their weight will have a bang on effect on their attitude, relationships, career choices and much much more!

You’re The Example

Set a good example. You should be at a healthy weight, perform regular exercise and eat foods that are nutritionally sound. If that means coming to boot camp and getting your bum put into shape, then maybe that’s the step you need.

Feel Good Sweets

Don’t reward sweets for good behaviour, reward things such as more play time, time on games machines etc for exercise. By rewarding sweets for behaviour, you’re negatively conditioning them to crave sweet foods, and it’s hard to get kids off things once they’re hooked.

Learn Yourself and Pass it On

Learn things yourself about healthy eating and then pass the information onto your children. Fortunately schools are getting a lot better at passing on good nutritional information, but you should be the hub of new material to help develop your child’s mind.

Find What They Enjoy

If your child isn’t currently taking part in any exercise, they you need to sort this immediately. There are so many options available. Find out what makes them get excited. It could be a Martial Art, Swimming, Football, maybe it’s time to enrol them into a new class for kids. And remember, if your child sees you coming home from a tough exercise class smiling and being happy then this will rub off. So take the step yourself to change, for your kid!

Blimey, these pics bring back some sad memories. As a bullied, overweight teen I had no confidence, ate all the wrong foods and life was pretty awful. For me massive change came when I got introduced to exercise and learning about nutrition really helped me to develop myself. Not only did I change my body, but I changed my job, became a personal trainer and now help people all over the world change their lives with my diet, personal coaching and in Exeter, bootcamp.

It’s important that we all see what’s available to us. The body we can have, the energy levels we can create, the passion for everything else in life. I learned that by creating the body I wanted, a lot else followed. My relationships, my attitude, my passion for different types of work, building self esteem and more. I don’t know where you are with your life, but know that until your body is working at its optimum rate, the cogs of life won’t turn at the speed you know possible. The fantastic is ahead. More desire, more fruitful relationships, ultimate happiness and passion… Even when it seems tough, and it will be, you’ll get there, I did…

We like to put journalists through their paces, so when Exeter University found out about New Body Bootcamp, we were more than happy to offer them a session at our wednesday assault course. But who would be put through their paces? Find out and read what Expose had to say…

Review Taken from Expose Issue 26/10/2009

Simon Lovell’s ITV Boot Camp

A very early morning start for an exciting and fun-filled way to keep fit and tone up. The alternative way to exercise, run by internationally famous
personal trainer Simon Lovell, led to a national breakfast TV exclusive featuring your very own Lifestyle editors…

Tom says:

5:30 am (no it is not a typo, I do mean am). Mornings are famously not my forte and let’s be perfectly fair, 5:30 shouldn’t even be classed as morning, it’s more of a noman’s- land of a time. It’s not really nightime, not really morning, just this terrible quantum in time that I hadn’t witnessed in a good number of months. Aching, yawning and making up every excuse under the sun, I struggled out of bed on Francesca’s strict yet reluctant orders. 7:20 am. Knackered. Not quite sure what day it is still, two circuits of the assault course down, pretty sure that this is all a terrible dream and looking like a cross between Worzel Gummidge and Russell Brand (both having bad hair days). The last thing I want is to be on national television. Enter ITV cameramen filming a blog for ‘alternative ways to keep fit’, to be shown on Friday morning ITV Southwest breakfast TV. So the whole of the South West would see me attempting to straddle foam mats in the early hours. Classic. 8am. Revitalised. I’ve been up and down, in and out, shaken all about. Simon Lovell’s army-style assault course is potentially the most tiresome yet invigorating hour of fitness that I have ever experienced. Not only can you visibly see yourself toning up in the form of gallons of sweat dismounting from your body, but with the swinging ropes and foam barriers to negotiate, you get to impersonate James Bond and Robin Hood at the same time. It’s 8:30 am. I’m at one of those surreal stages in your life, akin to the first stages of puberty or realising for the first time that your younger brother is far cooler than you. I have burnt my week’s worth of calories, squeezed onto national TV half asleep, temporarily lost my manhood in the freezing cold outdoor run, am up before 10:00 and feel absolutely fantastic. What’s going on? Struggling to get fit for the Safer Sex Ball? Of course you are – not really sure why I asked that. Well, we have just discovered the shortcut! And, unlike the majority of our ‘Exe-periences’ you can uncover the secret within our very own city walls. Located just behind Hotel Barcelona, Simon Lovell’s Boot Camp offers an easily accessible alternative to sculpt your body into a temple.

Fran says:

While you were curled into the foetal position at 7am last Tuesday, I was on a trampoline, having just leapt over three ‘horses’, clambered up a climbing frame, removed and re-removed my trainers three times to run three circuits round a twilight park before repeating this assault course. I had also made a neat puddle of sweat on the gym floor, my t-shirt was inside out and I was being filmed. Simon Lovell is a name fast becoming known in the fitness world. He is a celebrity fitness
instructor and has tutored the likes of Cameron Diaz in nutrition (who has used his famous Lunch Box Diet.) Simon’s unique fitness coaching has featured on The Wright Stuff, Sky Slimming and Fitness Channel, and now ITV Southwest has covered him. He also agreed to be shut in a sow stall with celebrity chef Jamie Oliver on the Channel 4 programme Jamie Saves Our Bacon in which he supported the British Pig Industry. Simon’s unique fitness coaching tones every limb in our body by combining a rigorous assault course in an indoor gym (behind Hotel Barcelona in Exeter) with merciless outdoor sprinting. And you get to lunge into a pile of foam. Once joined up to Simon’s sessions, you are offered a free hair-cut, a free massage, regular nutritional coaching as well as the regular morning routine for a mere £40. This will be the third year I cough up £235 to use the facilities at Streatham Campus Gym but I find myself searching for something more invigorating, more supportive than panting on a cross-trainer like a caged hamster after lectures. Of course I want to lose six pounds before I decide to bare all for The Safer Sex Ball but something tells me that Simon’s regular ‘motivation texts’ are a lot more likely to rip me from the couch. Yes the fitness sessions start at 7am, so you can complete your excercise on dead time. This dawned on me walking home at 8.15am that morning, I realised I had burned over 600 calories and I was still early for a 9am lecture! This is my incentive to visit www.newbodycamp.co.uk and sign up.

If you want to get toned up, in shape and change your life you have a lot of different options available. For those who don’t enjoy the gym environment, fitness classes are a great option as you get the chance to workout with other like minded people. However, many fitness classes have major problem when it comes to increasing result – many people get an initial benefit but then they seem to maintain. This is quite simply because the intensity sticks on one level throughout the entirety of the class. At bootcamp you get the chance to build on your personal bests, and this is where real results come through.

So, if you’re thinking about attending a fitness class, make sure it’s the right one for you. Ensure you get a good mixture of strength work with high intensity intervals to increase your fitness levels, speed up your metabolism and help you to leap forward quickly with your goals.

Another major issue is nutrition. Here at New Body Bootcamp, we look into what you’re eating which is 50 percent of your effort. Sure we’ll push you at camp and get the best out of you, but you also need to stick with a good, solid, sustainable eating plan that works best for you!

New Body Bootcamp, we’re passionate about getting you to where you want to be! So come and try a free week and you’ll love us!
